Buddha Bowl w/ Crispy Sesame Hoisin Tofu

It is no secret that I adore Asian food! My love for Asian-inspired dishes knows no bounds. This vegan crispy sesame hoisin tofu recipe is a quick and easy, high-protein meal that my entire family loves! Seriously! Everyone, from my meat-and-potatoes dad to my omma, loves this crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, hoisin sauce-crusted tofu!

My cousin has been a vegetarian for 2 years. Or maybe it has been 3 years. I can’t even remember. Every now and then I like to share some of her favourite things to eat. She doesn’t like beans so tofu is a major source of protein for her. I actually really like to cook with tofu and eat it as well. I love that it has a very neutral flavour that lends itself to being paired with all kinds of seasonings and ingredients.

It is quiet difficult to find vegan hoisin sauce. Some versions have fish sauce in them others may be high on msg. If you are lucky to find one sans fish sauce and low msg then please stock it up. It is really good to have this sauce handy for whipping quick meals.

If there is one kind of meal I never get tired of it’s definitely buddha bowls. Why do I love them so much? Because 1) it is cozy and comforting 2) easy to eat, you don’t need to bring table mats, skillets, spatulas, and all the other stuff on the table. just get your bowls and a fork! plus it’s perfect to have in front of your favourite netflix show. And 3) it is healthy and loaded with different flavours and textures.

The idea with a buddha bowl is to pile your bowl so full of things that it is nice and round on top, like a buddha belly! I like to add whatever leftovers I can find in my fridge. Truly an awesome concept don’t you think? I’ve also heard them called ‘hippie bowls’, hahahaa! When you have all the elements of a buddha bowl, it doesn’t matter what you call it, a vegan buddha bowl or a hippie bowl or whatever, what it really is, is a super healthy and damn delicious meal indeed!
