Chocolate Earl Grey Sweet Rolls

It’s a quiet Monday morning and the sweet smell of earl grey tea fills my kitchen. Only it’s not coming from the kettle on the stove, but the batch of these vegan chocolate earl grey sweet rolls that I'm cooking in my baking pan. Sweet rolls. Sweet buns. Whatever you want to call them! How about moist, fluffy, sweet, drool-worthy little breakfast desserts?

I mean, whoever allowed something so decadent to pass as a breakfast food is my true hero in life. These vegan sweet rolls take breakfast #goals to a whole new level because I tried to incorporate earl grey tea in every way possible in this recipe. There is tea in the dough (2 ways), in the filling, and in the glaze (2 possible ways). I then topped them with a smooth, sweet, sugar glaze – yaaasss?!!

I've been a little obsessed with yeasted baking lately and the thought of warm, fluffy, and gooey yeasted rolls with earl grey undertones makes my heart sing. Plus chocolate? Yes, please! Now that I think about it, I've never really tasted anything that screams earl grey. even a cup of earl grey tea doesn't scream earl grey, which is probably why I like it so much!

To eat sweet rolls, I like to peel and eat each outer layer because we all know the best part of a sweet roll is the soft, juicy, extra sugar-sweet, center. But the bro just takes a huge bite out of the roll like it’s some kind of donut – uhhhh?? The filling has spilled out from the coils in a naughty cocoa-wink to entice you in. Yes they’re a little messy: it’s chocolate, and nope I’m not going to apologise.

This recipe is absolutely perfect for thanksgiving morning, and its pretty simple to make. I made this for my omma who happens to hate sweet stuff, but… lets just say she ate more than half of these. These rolls go perfect with warm milk or hot coffee on a chilly thanksgiving morning before the guests arrive (so you don’t have to share), and even though it would be enough for about 6-8 people, don’t be surprised if it vanishes between two people. Enjoy!
