Recently, I’ve been addicted to K-drama, and if you’re like me, chances are you have heard of or even tried this popular Korean dish. So… did you ever notice? In almost every Korean drama, you will see characters devour this black sauce noodle dish-ending with black sauce all around their mouths. As you might have seen in Korean dramas, jjajiangmyeon is also the most popular dish for home delivery in Korea, just like pizza delivery in America. It’s the dish Koreans call to order on a hectic moving day. It is a popular Korean-Chinese noodle dish covered in a thick layer of rich black bean sauce and topped with fresh cucumbers.
Traditional jjajangmyeon are oftentimes not vegan, but the good news is that I have came out with a vegan version that taste as good as the non-vegan ones!! Jiajangmyeon is said to be derived from the Chinese noodle dish “zha jiang mian” which is literally translated as “fried sauce noodles.” The flavour comes from the Jjajang sauce (black bean sauce). The sauce is sweet, salty, very umami front flavor with a hint of pleasant bitterness. But I’d say the major flavour you will notice at first would be sweet, salty, and savory. Because of its sweet taste profile, it is one of the most popular dishes among Korean children.
Thick, saucy, rich, and comforting, this vegan jjajiangnyeon is better than takeout and will certainly warm up your belly. Whether you grew up on these Korean black bean noodles or learned to love them as an adult, I’m sure you get strong cravings for this beloved dish every so often. You won’t miss the meat at all with this yummy vegan jjajangmyeon recipe. You can definitely add any veggies you like, but garlic, ginger, green onion, onion and cabbage are the must for this recipe. Get your Korean black bean noodle fix in 30 minutes, from start to finish!
