I typically consume about 40 to 50 grams of protein a day without trying. I’ve found that the easiest way to get that extra 10 to 20 grams is to start the day with a protein smoothie or smoothie bowl. The protein base of this vegan peanut butter chocolate protein smoothie bowl is tofu. Seeing a few other people do this made me quite sceptical at first. Now that I’ve given it a go, however, I’m never going back. Overnight, it’s become a staple smoothie bowl ingredient for me.

This chocolate smoothie bowl is the definition of ‘dessert for breakfast’, vegan, and simple to put together – no baking or cooking required! In the past, I’ve solely relied on protein powder to get that added boost, but lately I’ve been adding tofu to smoothies instead.

If you are tofu-hesitant, please hear me out. Silken tofu is super smooth, versatile, and blends up like a dream. The result is a creamy, effortlessly thick, and satisfying smoothie bowl with generous plant-based protein. Blending in tofu makes your smoothie lightly soft and creamy, giving it a consistency to pudding. It also adds protein and a little thickness to the meal—perfect for keeping you full and creating a base for fun toppings.
