Thai Basil Chilli Tofu

My family is fond of Thai basil so we have started to grow them in our garden which is the best decision ever! And last week, I had a block of tofu sitting in my refrigerator. Thus, I decided to make this vegan Thai basil chilli tofu. It is a dish I frequently order at Thai restaurants and it's called Pad Krapow, Pad Kra Pao. Have you tried Pad KraPao before? Pad translates to stir-fry and KraPao is Holy Basil. Just by the name of it, you’ll know it’s an aromatic and flavourful dish with this fragrant herb.



If you ask me, the star of the dish is definitely the Thai Basil. I think I am just obsessed with it and feel like adding it to everything. This Thai basil tofu stir fry is so freaking delicious! Can you believe this is made with tofu? I usually make this dish when I'm rushed for time. As in, I'm about to head out to the nearest fast food joint and order something ungodly bad for me. That's when I realise that I can whip up this amazing Thai basil tofu in no time. I'm talking 15 minutes start to finish for an amazing, protein packed meal ready in no time! It's usually made with ground meat, but tofu is an excellent substitute because it acts as a sponge and absorbs all of that savoury, spicy soy sauce.



This is one of the most beloved Thai street food dish and i love the wonderful aromatics that always hit you when you walk into a Thai restaurant. They tingle all the senses with spicy, sweet, fragrant, and exotic notes all at once. And when you eat Thai food, you have the textural sensations to go along with the flavours. A small tip if using extra-firm tofu – do not skip the step of pressing it with a heavy object for 15 to 20 minutes before using in the recipe. The tofu absorbs more flavours when you do this, so don’t rush. Once that it done, this stir-fry comes together in less than 15 minutes. Mix it all together with rice and chow down. I promise this will be a favourite you'll come back to over and over again.Easy meals for the win!
